Terry Gauntlett (Director) has been acting since his schooldays and has been a member of WWOS for over fifty years and Chairman for the last eighteen. Over those years he has become particularluy associated with the G&S 'Grossmith' roles and has either taken part in or directed all thirteen Savoy Operas. His favourite roles include Jack Point (The Yeomen of the Guard), Ko-Ko (The Mikado), The Lord Chancellor (Iolanthe), Walter Wilkins (Merrie England), Colonel Frank (Die Fledermaus), Ali Hakim (Oklahoma!), Omar (Kismet) and Max (The Sound of Music). He has directed some forty operettas and musicals for WWOS and other societies including fifteen at the Churchill Theatre. The first show he directed for WWOS was The Yeomen of the Guard in 1960 and since then those that have given him most satisfaction have been The Merry Widow, Orpheus in the Underworld, The Grand Duke, Fiddler on the Roof, South Pacific and Oliver! Terry is now revisiting the work he first directed for WWOS; that time his father-in law played Jack Point but when WWOS repeated it in 1968 he played that part himself, now, in 2004, his son takes on the role. Three generations from the same family playing the same role in three successive productions with the same company must be some sort of record.
