Acting Membership
Acting Membership, open to anyone over 16 years of age, is by audition heard and assessed by the 10 members of the Society's Council of Management. We ask you sing a song of your own choice and, if necessary, sing the vocal line appropriate to your voice
of the Sociey's 'set piece', the unaccompanied quartet "Strange Adventure" from Act II of The Yeomen of the Guard (now playing on this page). This is to establish whether you can, reasonably, hold a vocal line against other singers but you will only be asked for this second piece if the Council feel unable to properly judge your potential from your chosen solo. Acting membership entitles you to take part in the two productions a year at the Churchill Theatre, to participate in the Olde Tyme Music Halls and to join in all the social events.
NEWS&VIEWS, the Society's newsletter, is published on an occasional basis but the website is regularly updated and this is now the primary source of all up-to-date news and information.
Financial Commitment
The current annual membership subscription is £30.00. In addition you are required to pay a 'show fee', currently £10.00, for each production in which you participate but this fee is rebated if you sell 25 tickets or more for the show through the Society's own box office. You are also required to provide your own rehearsal material (vocal score and, where necessary, libretto) which, if you cannot obtain on loan from a public library (or friend), can be hired or purchased through the Society.
Rehearsals
Chorus and full company rehearsals are on Wednesday evenings from 8.00 - to 10.00pm at Wickham Theatre Centre, Corkscrew Hill, West Wickham. Once the show is cast then principals rehearse at the same venue on Monday evenings. Wickham Theatre Centre is the home of Theatre 62, the local award-winning drama group with whom we have a close artistic and social association, who present five plays a year at the Theatre Centre. During the two weeks prior to, and the week of, their production the Society's rehearsals are transferred to alternative venues, usually Wickham Halls or Emmanual Church Hall - see map below.
Patrons
Patrons of the Society receive advanced notice of our forthcoming productions, priority booking facilities, a newsletter, and the opportunity to join in our social activities. The annual subscription is currently £5.00 to cover the postage costs.
