Pauline Gregoire (Nettie Fowler) joined WWOS in1965 as Fiametta (The Gondoliers) and this is now her 62nd appearance, in all but 10 as a named principal. Initially she played 'straight' soprano roles such as Elsie Maynard (The Yeomen of the Guard), Rose Maybud (Ruddigore), Rosalinda (Die Fledermaus) Anna Glawari (The Merry Widow) and the title role in Princess Ida. More recently she has been seen in character roles, including Katisha (The Mikado), Mrs Squeezum (Lock Up Your Daughters), Czipra (The Gipsy Baron), the 'travesty' role - Prince Orlovsky (Die Fledermaus), Queen Elizabeth (Merrie England), Aunt Eller (Oklahoma! - twice), Mrs Bardell (Pickwick - twice) and Golde (Fiddler on the Roof). A great admirer of Stephen Sondheim, Paulines favourite role for WWOS was Mrs Lovett (Sweeney Todd), surely one of the most challenging roles for a soprano - and great fun too! She played Nettie Fowler in WWOS's first production of Carousel in 1991 and is delighted to have the opportunity to recreate it this week. Pauline is also an occasional drama performer with Theatre 62 and is the secretary of Wickham Theatre Trust.
