Georg Tormann (Colonel Fairfax) last appeared for WWOS was on the podium, as conductor for The King and I but is delighted to be back on stage for the company for the first time since he played the role of Curly (Oklahoma!) in 2001. He gained a B. Mus. from London University in 1994, majoring as a singer, and then went on to study for a further five years with Eduardo Asquez. He has performed with many opera companies including The Royal Carl Rosa, with whom he understudied the role of Frederick (The Pirates of Penzance), Opera Holland Park, European Chamber Opera, English Festival Opera and London City Opera, with whom he understudied the role of Falke (Die Fledermaus) on their 1999 American Tour. He has also sung in many musicals where his roles have included The Caliph (Kismet), Tony (West Side Story), Lancelot (Camelot), Frank Butler (Annie Get Your Gun), Anthony (Sweeney Todd) and Cable (South Pacific). He began conducting in 1996 when he produced, conducted and directed Carmen at the Bob Hope Theatre in Eltham. Since then he has conducted many musicals including Company and Chess and in 1999 he founded and became Music Director of Bromley Open Air Theatre, co-producing a month long festival of opera and plays, in the beautiful setting of the Church House Gardens. Last year Georg was asked to be Music Director for the Crystal Palace Open Air Concerts, where he also starred in the big band show Music to Watch Girls By, which is currently touring. As well as his performing career, Georg enjoys teaching singing, privately and at The B.R.I.T.S performing arts school and he is also head of vocal studies at the Reynolds Academy in Bexley and chorus master for the London Concert Choir.
