Mr Edward (Edgar in the Musical) Beane, 32, was born on 19 November 1879 in England, the son of George Beane and Mary A. Cox. He moved to New York where he worked as a a bricklayer. He had returned to his home town of Norwich to get married to Ethel Clarke. They newlyweds boarded the Titanic at Southampton as second class passengers. He survived the sinking together with his wife because they were one of a few “honeymooners” that were not parted by the rule “women and children first”. Both were rescued in lifeboat 13. He died in Rochester, New York on 24 October 1948.
